Posture and alignment will all play a role in ensuring the glute muscles are functioning to their full potential. The position of the pelvis and spine also contributes to how the glute muscles contract. If you can improve your alignment and posture then you also have a better chance at improving the function of the glute muscles away from a Pilates class during day to day activities.
The strength and control of the glute muscles directly influence the biomechanics of the lower limb, therefore improving knee, foot and ankle alignment. Pilates is a whole body workout building strength in the glutes is just one part of a bigger picture. I vary rarely teach a Pilates class without adding in lots of glute exercises!
