In these Pilates workouts for upper back pain we are able to mobilise the thoracic spine (middle back) and shoulders. Lack of rotation in the thoracic spine can lead to other problems such as weakness in the oblique muscles (waste muscles). Weakness in the oblique muscles can lead to overactivity in other areas, such as the quadratus lumborum muscles (lower back area)
